American Wood Type. Rob Roy Kelly Collection. Antique Extended. First shown by George Nesbitt in his 1838 specimens. This design cut by the Hamilton Company. Lowercase is missing. Antique Extended may have originated as a wood type as it shows regularly in wood type catalogues some fifteen years before the typefounders included it in their specimens. (Nicolette Gray dates the design 1841 and believes it is American in origin.) 2-16.
